01 The extended mind
AskYour mind was never only in your head
We think with our bodies, our surroundings, by doing, and with tools. Until now, tools held what we knew and the judging stayed with us.
AI is different. It joins what we want: what's worth asking, what's worth doing, what counts as done. And it learns from us as we learn from it. We shape it. It shapes us.
02 Cognitive offloading
DoubtThe effort AI saves you is where understanding is built
Not all effort is waste. Understanding is built in getting there: the draft you throw away, the doubt you sit with, the walk where the idea arrives.
AI makes getting there optional. Trade away the struggle and you trade away what it was training: patience with a problem, and the strength to stay with not knowing. The work still gets done. The question is who did the moving.
03 The silent loss
JudgeUnused judgment weakens quietly
Nothing breaks, so nobody notices. You find out the day you reach for it: the question you can't hold, the page you can't start without asking first.
Answers keep getting smoother. They don't have to be wrong to change how you think; they only have to sound right. From the outside, a mind that delegates well and a mind that has stopped trying look exactly the same.
04 The partnership
CreateLiving with AI is not the same as thriving with it
Human and machine can find steps neither knew alone. Or one can simply follow, until it forgets it ever knew the steps. What emerges between you is not good or bad by default. It is designed, or it isn't.
Every new model is tested for accuracy, reasoning and safety before it reaches you. No one tests the two of you. The evidence already exists: every question, every order, every thanks is written down. You've just never read it.
05 Looking back
ChooseYou're not afraid to use AI. Why be afraid to look back?
Every conversation leaves a trace: what you asked, what you accepted, where you pushed back, and when you stopped asking.
Metacognition, thinking about your own thinking, grows one way only: by reflecting on it. Nobody grades it. You see the pattern, and you decide what to keep.
